About the Item

A FINE CHEROOT BRASS SIGNAL CANNON CANE WITH ROSEWOOD SHAFT 20th century 36 1/4" H x 5 1/2" W (handle) A rosewood walking stick fitted with a working brass signal cannon handle, the cylindrical barrel with turned bands and a domed finial to one end, the opposite end flaring slightly at the muzzle. The top of the barrel with a small touch hole for inserting a fuse or wick. The handle unscrews to reveal a fitted brass ramrod and a small compartment within the upper shaft for storing powder and wadding. The solid rosewood shaft is capped with a brass ferrule incised with double rings above a steel sabot tip. Signal cannon canes of this type were designed for producing a loud report, often used ceremonially, for starting yacht races, or for maritime signaling. While some examples were intended primarily as novelty or sporting accessories, functioning models such as this were capable of firing small powder charges when properly loaded and ignited. Condition: Untested. Appears to be functional and complete. Retains original ramrod. Rosewood shaft with some scuffs. A fine quality piece. ref. 503TZS05P About silla antiques & art Established in 2009, we have available in our 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery an ever-changing selection of carefully curated and catalogued furniture, decorative arts, paintings, sculpture and estate jewelry. Regency Style Gilt and Faux Porphyry Iron Athenienne Jardinierre Plant Stand
Located in Shippensburg, PA
REGENCY STYLE GILT AND FAUX-PORPHYRY IRON ATHENIENNE JARDINIERRE Early 20th century, likely designed to be used as a jardinierre Item # 407MYK10M Unusual and eye-catching, this bold Regency-style athenienne is cleverly designed entirely out of iron, the surface of which has been decorated with parcel gilding, a baked enamel that simulates pophyry marble and polychromed uprights. The vessel has drainage points in the bottom that insinuate it was designed to be used as a jardinierre. This is surmounted by gilded lion masks with rings in their mouths over the tripart columnar supports stretched on a triangular mid-tier shelf, the loosely klismo legs swirling and curving outward over gilded animal...
