Rare Cherry Wood Cane With Concealed Glass "Flask" Inserted In Shaft. Circa 1875

About the Item

Fine quality rare cherry walking stick with concealed "flask"; from the esteemed collection of Prince Moritz (1926-2013), who was well known for his extensive collection of art and antiques on behalf of The Foundation of The House of Hess. This cane is rare because; for the original TWO FOOT LONG crystal "flask" (see images) to be preserved after 150 years of "use and abuse", dropping the cane, banging it here and there, and copiously removing it for "drinking purposes"-------it is just about impossible for it not to have been broken. Not to mention; the improbability that the original silver top would be there and intact; especially after drinking the flask contents---even the cork is origina!! The walking stick is in excellent and all original condition with no repairs, no replacements, and no restoration of any kind, including the 1 3/8" tip. The silver is not marked, but I have examined it and the mounts are most definitely silver. This cane is a crem de la crem of collecting and a collection of walking sticks would be incomplete without an example; and if you were only going to have one walking stick this would certainly be one to have; especially given the Prince Moritz provenance. I have left the descriptive and identifying label on the tip of the cane for posterity. It is difficult to discern the genesis but it is probably American or English. Dimensions: 35 1/2" long x 1 1/4" diameter (top) x 1" diameter (shaft)

Fine Quality Antique French Toy "Dancing Couple", circa 1880, Rare

Located in Incline Village, NV

One of a kind, fine quality antique toy, "Dancing Couples" is of French manufacture, it is marked in raised lettering "A.L. Paris" at the top of the base. It is also very similar to several French toys noted in "Antique Toys" by Jeffrey Levitt, and the young lady's face is almost identical to the bisque face on a French toy referenced on page 209 plate #372. This outstanding toy consists of two figures, a young man resembling Napoleon Bonaparte, and a young lady, dressed in period clothes with bisque (porcelain) faces and heads and wooden legs. The base is some type of metal composite consisting of a cast lead alloy. The polychromed hand painted blue and red metal dance floor is also a lead alloy. The wire stands supporting the figures is of ferrous metal. The bisque faces are very lifelike with flesh tones and blue eyes, rosy cheeks to the lady with bisque auburn hair. He is dressed in original period Napoleon type military clothes...

Rare 911 Porsche Friction Tin Toy by Bandai Toy Co. Made in Japan Circa 1960's

Offered here is a whitish/cream colored friction tin toy 911 Porsche circa 1960's, marked at the bottom; "Porsche" in addition to the Bandai Toy Company logo embossed, along with "Made in Japan" designation being noted. The Bandai Toy Company is a post war toy company established in Taito, Japan circa 1950 and is still conducting business today, albeit, it has shifted from toy manufacturing to video toy accessories. This is a very rare toy and is coveted by collectors of both toys and fast cars. Except for the odd and minor scratch here and there, the toy is in very nice, all original condition with absolutely no restoration or touch up to the paint or mechanism (see images). The action and friction functionality works well (see video). Motor and engine mechanics and nomenclature are colorfully displayed through the plastic rear trunk window (see image); while the colorful interior can be seen through the side window. Car is all tin, with rubber tires and plastic windows. Dimensions: 10 1/4" long x 4" wide x 3 1/4" high. Priced competitively; note that this toy doesn't become available very often and the few that have turned up in recent years , don't work and are several hundred dollars more than mine. Note: After 40 plus years of dealing and collecting toys, I am justly qualified to guarantee and present the authenticity of antique and vintage toys; important considering fakes and reproductions in the marketplace it would behoove an enterprising collector, dealer, or decorator to take advantage of the opportunity to buy as many of the vintage tin...
