About the Item

1980s Vintage Dick Brewer Surfboards Team Rider surfboard. Roger Erickson’s personal surfboard. Shaped by Owl Chapman in the late 80s-early 90s. Features Waimea Bay big wave 11’9” pintail shape with signature dual black stripes Erickson’s boards were known by. “Owl Chapman Roger Erickson Brewer Team” written on the redwood stringer. Roger Erickson is undoubtedly among the greatest big wave surfers in the history of the sport. Often referred to as the “Gladiator” on account of his warrior build and relentless pursuit of riding giant waves at the treacherous Hawaiian surf break, Waimea Bay. Roger was also awarded a Purple Heart medal in the Vietnam War, only days after being deployed. Erickson heroically saved a fellow marine after being injured by a land mine blast. A seldom offered opportunity to own a treasured piece of big wave surfing history, ridden by “The Gladiator of Waimea”.
