In Poppies, artist Hasharat presents a dramatic vertical composition of real butterflies, meticulously arranged within an antique 19th-century glass cloche measuring 11" x 7" x 23". Striking red-and-black butterflies (resembling Panacea prola) are interspersed among ethereal black-and-white spotted butterflies (Idea leuconoe or similar), their contrasting hues suggesting a botanical abstraction of blooming poppies. Mounted on slender wires rising from a dark wood base, the butterflies appear to float in a delicate, weightless ascent.
