Carstens Tonnieshof German Mid-Century Green Glazed Ashtray Set

About the Item

A very stylish German mid-century art pottery ashtray set decorated in green glazes by Carstens Tonnieshof and dating from the 1950’s. The set comprises of four ashtrays, which could also be used to serve pickles or other small food items, which neatly stack with the base ashtray with a large loop carrying handle. The ashtrays red stoneware ashtrays are of rectangular shape with rounded corners and extended to one end with two cigarette or cigar rests. The ashtrays have an unglazed narrow rectangular shaped foot and have raised edges and are decorated with brown tenmoku style glazes run over a bright blue green glazed body. The ashtrays all have underglaze molded makers marks to the bases. We have provided the dimensions of the ashtrays although the handled base is naturally larger Provenance: acquired in the British art market. In good condition.
