About the Item

Mechanical cigarettes case set designed by Deykin & Harrison. This is a very interesting mechanical case, created in Birmingham England during the art deco period at the silversmith workshop of Deykin & Harrison, back in the late 1930. The cigarettes case has been crafted in solid .925/.999 sterling silver with polished finishes and embellished with engine turned decorations. It is accompanied by a cigarette mouthpiece and is fitted with a five-barrels hinge and a mechanical push lock. Deykin & Harrison The business was established in 1781 as gilt button makers and was carried on by James Deykin and William Henry Deykin until 1848. The firm was active in its factory, Venetian Works, 5 and 6 Jennens Row, Dale End, Birmingham, mainly as buttons manufacturer, until 1854 when production of electroplated wares was introduced. At this time the firm traded as J. & W. Deykin (buttons) and Deykin & Sons (electroplated wares) under the partnership of James Deykin and William Redfern Deykin. The production of buttons was abandoned in 1877. From 1871 the firm had a showroom in London and in 1895 became Deykin & Harrison, under the partnership of William R. Deykin and Walter Andrew Harrison. In 1907 the business was transformed into a limited liability company under the style Deykin & Harrison Ltd. The firm was active until the late 1930s Weight: 45.8 Grams, (29.40 Dwt). Measurements: 77 mm by 65 mm by 20 mm (3.02 x 2.55 x 0.79 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with British marks; the anchor mark for the city of Birmingham, the maker's mark D&H associated to Deykin & Harrison, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .925/.999 silver and the letter F for the productions' year of 1930. Collateral: This sterling case by Deykin & Harrison is accompanied by a presentation jewelry pouch. Condition: The overall condition of this cigarettes case by Deykin & Harrison is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the sterling. All parts are secured in the settings. This box has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
