Gold Mounted Meerschaum Carved Confederate Soldier Head Pipe Bowl
About the Item
A very rare and exquisitely carved meerschaum pipe bowl portraying the head of an American Confederate soldier and mounted with gold dating from around 1860. The head has been finely carved with a beard and facial features with a wonderful polished brown stained finish and wearing a traditional peaked cap the peak and top rim of the hat and bowl rim made in high carat gold. The pipe bowl has a long neck with the terminal also mounted with a gold sleeve and engraved with the initials 'JPE'. The pipe head is missing its mouthpiece and has quite a bit of weight to it, probably relating to the gold. The pipe bowl is not otherwise marked but probably was carved in Vienna to order.
