About the Item

This is without question a most unique Austrian silver cigarette case, the front of the case is decorated with a finely detailed road map in coloured enamels, against a white enamelled surface, commemorating 'The United Motor Car Columns of the K.U.K., Sud-Tirol 1916'. The opposite side of the case is plain silver without enamelling or decoration. The sprung lid opens to reveal a richly gilded interior bearing the signatures of the participants of the tour, as well as bearing impressed maker marks for noted Viennese silversmiths, Kurzer & Wolf. The exterior bearing impressed Vienna assay marks & silver marks denoting .900 silver fineness. In addition to its aesthetics, the case is also of considerable weight, weighing 170 grams or 5.46 troy ounces. The are a few minor surface stains on the interior which could be removed, but have been left untouched.
