About the Item

Beautiful set of 3 antique porcelain dolls, so called ''Frozen Charlottes'': they originate in Germany, where they would be put into the pudding (or any sweet festive dish) for girls to find then as little gifts or lucky charms. The name ''frozen Charlotte'' originates from the tale – or fact –, that young women riding a carriage in their thin dresses to go to a ball, would almost freeze 'to death', so these dolls were a kind of obscure reminder! Usually made from bisque porcelain, here the smallest, , wearing a dress (attributed to Japan and one-of-a-kind) is made from partially painted bisque. The largest and equally rare doll comes in a typical Japanese hairstyle and ist glazed. The mid sized one is an original from Germany and is a boy, Charlie. They would usually made in a way they can be taken into the hot tub. Dimensions of the Charlie (middle sized one): 4.8 cm height – 1.88'' approx. Tiny doll with Japanese hairstyle: 3.2 cm height – 1.25'' approx. Large one: height 16.2 cm – 6.37'' approx.

1930's German Art Deco Porcelain Half Doll
Located in Red Lion, PA
Stunning 1930s German Art Deco Porcelain Half Doll with Rococo Hairstyle This exquisite 1930s German porcelain half doll captures the refined beauty and timeless glamour of the Art Deco period, paired with the romantic influence of 18th-century Rococo style. Rendered in fine porcelain with exceptional attention to detail, this rare figure is a striking example of German artistry at its peak. Her delicate features are simply enchanting — bright blue eyes accented by soft blue eyeshadow, rosy cheeks, and vivid red lips, all hand-painted with precision. Her ornate updo evokes the powdered wigs of the 1700s, gathered high with an elegant bow at the back and a tiny tiara perched at the front, nodding to both historic elegance and theatrical flair. What sets this figure apart is her graceful, outstretched arms, posed in a fluid and balletic gesture, capturing a moment of poised movement. It’s a pose both sculptural and expressive, and one rarely seen in typical half dolls. Her condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, or signs of repair. Here delicately painted features remain vivid after nearly a century. German half dolls...
