About the Item
Beautiful pair of Sosaku Kokeshi from the 1960-70s, with a beautiful wood grain.
First one, "old man" has been made by Aida Seihou, aka Harumine in the 1960s, he was one of the pioneers of the Sosaku Kokeshi (Creative Kokeshi).
Second one, "old woman", is attributed to Muhitsu Miyajima, made in the 1970s.
Both are elegant, simple yet featuring a beautiful woodwork.

The kokeshi in few words ?
Handmade in Japan, these dolls come from the Tohoku region, which has lots of natural hot springs and where they were sold as souvenirs to the tourists.
They come in a variety of shapes, colors, sizes and decorations, from the most traditional one to the most creative one, and the craftsmen who make them are awarded (among which the coveted Prime Minister Award) for the most beautiful kokeshi of the year.
