The author's signature can be found on the side of each of the pieces. The Victorian era, from 1837 to 1901 under Queen Victoria's reign, was a period of cultural development in the United Kingdom. Advancements were made in science, technology, industry and engineering, while literacy and education became more widespread after the 1870 Education Act. The era also saw the expansion of the British Empire and emphasis on moral conduct.
