Four Fold 19th Century Chinoiserie Leather Screen

About the Item

An Attractive Late 19th Century Four Fold Leather Room Dividing Screen, With Extremely Attractive Chinoiserie Decoration To Panels, Incorporating People, Pagodas And Trees, With Gilt Decorated Brass Tack Borders And Fabric Covered Reverse To Panels. A room dividing screen of relatively common design for throughout the 19th century which remains in relatively good condition. As is exceptionally common the leather panels have sustained some damage over the years of its life which have been sympathetically restored and this really causes no aesthetics issues at all. The decoration is very attractive and nice quality and the leather has aged gracefully. The reverse of the panels have been very recently upholstered with a black calico type material and edged with braid meaning that should one wish to use this room dividing screen for its original purpose then all areas are finished more than acceptably. We think however that a great use for this four panel screen is mounted flat to a wall, like a piece of art, it would really add to the room in a nice open space. The screen has mirror plates for attaching it to the wall and could be hung just about anywhere that one wishes very easily. As with all items which we offer for sale it has received a quick clean and tidy, then natural wax polish in our workshops to ensure that it is ready for immediate placement following purchase. Circa 1890. Height 72in. Width 91in. (fully opened.) Depth 1in.

19th Century Amboyna Occasional Table
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A delightful 19th century occasional lamp, or wine table, with well figured amboyna circular top and ormolu moulding raised on three elegant ebonized and inlaid turned supports, terminating with triform plateau and elegant sabre feet. Although victorian in date this table draws on a variety of different stylistic features, from a range of different periods. The use of beautiful amboyna veneers, set against ebonised mouldings is very much a 19th century feature however, the contrast created providing both a boldness and elegance all in one. This little occasional table is constructed from excellent timbers and when taking into account the overall quality of construction as well it is clear that it was produced in one of the top cabinet makers workshops of the time. Surprisingly sturdy for such a small article, which is due to the intelligent triple support design, this is a most practical table indeed, perfect for a wide variety of spots around the home, where one can use it to house a lamp, some photo frames or even a nice glass of wine. It is a great size and should fit elegantly into just about spot desired. Overall the condition is good and as with all items which we offer for sale it has received a natural wax polish by our highly skilled, traditional antique furniture...
