About the Item

Rare four panel screen with Gustav Klimt's "The Embrace" prominently featured. The art is dimensional (with carvings) and painted in vibrant colors along with gilding. The back of the screen has a geometric pattern on a black lacquer field. The panels are each 84"H x 15.75"W x .75"D (so 63"W if it were laid flat). Depending on how much you bend/angle the panels the width will change accordingly. There are metal caps at the bottoms of the panel legs (brass possibly). This screen came out of an estate in Chicago. The owner said it was purchased in France in the 1970's. There are no makers marks. The original owners had it mounted to a wall and displayed as art. Their designer had brackets screwed into the back originally (to it would be secure laying flat against the wall). Later they took it down and had the screw holes on the back filled. Some of those holes cane be visible on close examination (although not immediately apparent). This is an amazing piece of functional art.
