Antique circa 1889 American Steamer Trunk Chest by CA Taylor 130 Madison Chicago

About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this original circa 1889 iron and steel American Steamer travelling trunk made by CA Taylor of Chicago This is a very well made example of a steamer trunk designed for luxury travel on cruise liner ships. This would have been a very expensive piece in its day and the height of sophisticated travel. This piece has an amazing patination that can only be achieved through honest age and genuine use. The trunk has two plaques to the top middle which read as follows: No2 Professionally made only by CA Taylor 130 W Madison St Chicago, the second plaque reads:- A Edwards 33 Esher SL Lambeth ST The inside top has been decorated with Victorian decoupage pictures which are lovely, the original folded linen shelf is present and still fits as it should do This is a decorators piece and really sets a mood, it can be used laying down as a large coffee table of course which is what most people do, they make great conversation pieces. If the new owners wish I can have a thick bevelled edge glass top made so its easier to use as a cocktail /coffee table Condition is period and wonderfully patinated, you honestly could ask for a better example Dimensions Height:- 57cm Width:- 86cm Depth:- 48.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Pulborough warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
