About the Item
We are delighted to offer for sale this original circa 1880-1900 Army & Navy CLS, zinc linen steamer trunk
This is a very well made example of a steamer trunk designed for luxury travel on cruise liner ships. This would have been a very expensive piece in its day and the height of sophisticated travel.
This piece has an amazing patination that can only be achieved through honest age and genuine use. The trunk has the original Army & Navy C.L.S plaque at the back which also reads London Bombay Calcutta which is most likely where they had stores at that time
The trunk was owned by CF Bell, as you can see his name has been painted on, this is a campaign trunk so has seem some service hence the condition!
This is a decorators piece and really sets a mood, it can be used laying down as a large coffee table of course which is what most people do, they make great conversation pieces.
Condition is period and wonderfully patinated
