Rosewood Bench by Celina Decorações, 1960s, Brazilian Midcentury Design
Located in New York, NY
This gorgeous bench was produced in the 1960s by Celina Decorações, which signed one of the most modern lines of Brazilian furniture at the period.
It consists of a very well-constructed piece in solid Rosewood, with slats rhythmically positioned supported by two boards working as lateral feet. One of the most beautiful details to pay attention to is the slats' perfect straight finish on the edges that contrast and highlight the organic curves on Rosewood veins.
Ideal for indoor uses, this bench offers statement seating in any space.
Based in Rio de Janeiro, the Celina Decorações factory imposed high-quality standards, maintaining handcrafted characteristics. The company was created in 1951 when Munis Zilberberg takes over the family business - a small upholstery workshop that worked on refurbishing sofa beds and antique furniture. The name is a tribute to her mother, Celina Zilberberg...

Original Antique Blaeu Map of Karst, Carniola, Istria, and Trieste, circa 1640
Located in Langweer, NL
Blaeu Map of Karst, Carniola, Istria, and Trieste, circa 1640
This is an original antique map titled “Karstia, Carniola, Histria et Windorum Marchia,” published by Willem Blaeu in Amsterdam circa 1640. The map depicts the historical regions of Karst (Karstia), Carniola (modern-day Slovenia), Istria (the peninsula shared by Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy), and the Windic March, a medieval border territory.
The engraving shows detailed place names, rivers, mountains, and settlements across present-day Slovenia, northeastern Italy, and northwestern Croatia. The Gulf of Trieste is prominently illustrated at the lower left, with Trieste labelled and coastal settlements clearly indicated. The Adriatic Sea is elegantly engraved with stippled waters, a compass rose, rhumb lines, and a sailing ship, enhancing its decorative maritime appeal.
In the upper left corner is a beautifully designed cartouche bearing the title within a scrollwork frame with foliage and drapery motifs. The lower left includes a mileage scale in Italian miles and a dedication to Guiljelmus Blaeu excudit, confirming its publication from the Blaeu workshop.
Willem Janszoon Blaeu (1571–1638) was one of the leading Dutch cartographers of the early 17th century, succeeded by his son Joan Blaeu. Their maps were known for their precision, aesthetic engraving, and clarity, making the Blaeu atlases the most prestigious publications of the Dutch Golden Age.
Condition:
Good condition. Strong, clean impression on laid paper with wide margins. Light age toning and faint foxing in blank margins, minor creasing along the original centre fold as issued. No tears or repairs noted. Fully suitable for framing.
Framing tips:
Frame this map in a thin black, walnut, or gilt frame to enhance its historic character. Use an off-white or cream archival mat to highlight the detailed engraving and preserve the sheet edges. UV-protective glazing is recommended to protect the paper and ensure its clarity and integrity over time.

Armchair Wing Sleeping Walnut Upholstered Bargello Cresting Baroque H-Stretcher
Located in BUNGAY, SUFFOLK
A museum quality, late-17th century, walnut, upholstered sleeping armchair
• Exceptionally rare model; one of the first models of upholstered armchair with the addition of the wings intended to conceal draughts.
• Transitional form : many of the carved features are characteristic of Baroque furniture dating from 1680 and the incorporation of upholstery is influenced by the desire for comfort post restoration of Charles II introducing French fashions to the English court.
• Striking, statement piece. The cresting, “H” stretcher and scrollwork carving which features throughout the chair inject gravitas.
• Practical size and ergonomic comfortable design, suitable for regular use.
The original, carved, walnut cresting supported by a pair of dragons with scrollwork either side of a central stylised leaf spray. The shaped rectangular back with wings. The sweeping arms with carved scroll ends supported by tapering turned uprights emerging from blocks. The rectangular seat supported by double scroll carved and column turned legs joined by an ‘H’stretcher which mirrors the shape of the back in the centre with finial, column turned side and back stretcher and back legs. Exceptional original colour and patina. c.1690.
CONDITION : re-upholstered in a recreation of 17th century, Italian, bargello embroidery which is characteristic of the period. Tiny marks, wear and losses as expected throughout the armchair. The finial is a C19 or early C20 replacement. The stretcher has suffered from worm damage and there are replaced sections at either end of 1” and 1½ “ respectively, and an area to the left of the finial has been filled. This work was not done by me and has some age to it and the finial was probably replaced at the same time. The armchair is sturdy and suitable for regular use.
PROVENANCE: Private Collection, Cheyne Walk, London
RELATED : Few sleeping chairs...

Dutch Colonial Silver Dish with the Von Pfeffel Coat-of-arms, 17th Century
Located in Amsterdam, NL
An unusual Indonesian lobbed silver dish
Jakarta (Batavia) or Coromandel coast, third quarter 17th century, apparently unmarked
The eight lobbed dish exuberantly decorated with floral motifs, with the middle section replaced, consisting of indistinctly marked German silver from the early 19th century, bearing the coat-of-arms of the Von Pfeffel family.
Diam. 30.5 cm
Weight 461 grams
Note:
Lobbed silver dishes with exuberant floral decorations were characteristic of the decorative arts in the Netherlands in the first half of the 17th century. This style of floral decoration was adopted by silversmiths as well as by furniture makers working on the Coromandel Coast and in Batavia, often by workers who had fled the Coromandel Coast because of war and famine. In Batavia this style was known as “Custwerck” (work from the Bengal coast).
These lobbed dishes are seldom marked. Only after 1667 the use of the town mark became obligatory in Batavia but only for silver made in Batavia not for silver imported in Batavia from other VOC settlements. The engraved coat of arms in the centre is a replacement of the original centre.
The coat of arms can be identified as those of Christian Hubert von Pfeffel (1765- 1834). As a diplomat, statesman, ambassador of Bavaria in London and Saxony and councillor to the King of Bavaria, he was made “Freiherr” in 1828 and since then used this coat of arms. His son Karl Maximilian Friederich Hubert Freiherr von Pfeffel (1811-1890) in 1836 married Karoline Adelheid Pauline von Rottenburg (1805-1872), the natural daughter of Prins Paul von Württemberg (1785-1852) and his mistress Margrethe Porth. Paul was the jounger brother of the King Wilhelm I of Württemberg (1781-1864). The heraldic motto of the von Pfeffels Vur Schande habe den Huot means as much as “Beware of Shame”. Christian Hubert Theodoor Marie Karl von Pfeffel Karl Maximilian’s grandson was the last male in the von Pfeffel line. His daughter, Marie Louise (Paris in 1882 - Cornwall 1944), born and grown-up in France, changed her name in de Pfeffel. She was the great grandmother of Boris Alexander de Pfeffel Johnson, the present British Secretary of State. None of the members of the von Pfeffel family had any direct links with the Dutch East Indies but indirectly by way of the Royal House of Württemberg they did.
Sophia Frederika Mathilda von Württemberg (1818-1877), daughter of Wilhelm I King of Württemberg, in 1839 married Willem III...
