Frankfurt Faience Blue & White Chinoiserie Bottle Vase, Trumpet Neck, 1680 This rare and early German faience bottle vase is attributed to the Frankfurt manufactory and dates to the last decades of the 17th century. The globular body rises to a slender neck that flares into a trumpet mouth, a form taken directly from the Chinese porcelain bottles that reached Europe in the second half of the 17th century. The vase is painted in a rich underglaze blue on a bright white tin glaze with the chinoiserie landscape for which Frankfurt was celebrated. The scene shows a Chinese figure in long flowing robes seated on a rocky bank and leaning forward, surrounded by stippled rockwork, sprays of grasses and tall broad-leaved banana plants...

Antique James I Sterling Silver Seal Top Spoons (1607)

Located in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique James I English sterling silver seal-top spoons; an addition to our 17th century silverware collection. These exceptional antique James I sterling seal top spoons* have a pear-shaped bowl to a faceted stem. The rounded bowl of each impressive antique silver spoon is plain and unembellished, apart from the feature assay mark. The faceted stems each terminate with a knopped circular seal matrix/die bearing the pin struck initials 'VHM'. This pair of silver seal top spoons represents an early form of functional silverware in which utility, symbolism, and craftsmanship are integrated into a compact domestic object. Defined by their characteristic seal-top finials and balanced proportions, these spoons reflect the material culture and silversmithing techniques of the 16th and 17th centuries. Their tactile construction and preserved period detailing enhance both decorative and collectible value. As historical artefacts, they appeal to collectors of antique silver and individuals with an interest in early tableware, craftsmanship, and social history. Condition These antique silver seal...
