An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver mustard pot made by Edward & John Barnard; an addition to our Victorian silver condiments collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver mustard pot has a plain circular form. The body of the mustard pot is encompassed with an exceptional and impressive band of bright cut engraved interlacing decoration accented with a simplified leaf motif. The decoration to the body incorporates a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting an eagle rousant, with wings addorsed and inverted, collared and chained, with an unidentified charge. The upper and lower rims of this fine example of Victorian silverware are ornamented with an impressive applied bead decorated border. This mustard pot is fitted with a domed hinged hallmarked cover encircled with an exceptional interlacing eight-pointed star motif with a central floral design. The cover is surmounted with an impressive sterling silver applied leaf thumb piece. This exceptional example of antique silverware has a plain shaped handle with a scrolling thumb piece. The mustard pot retains the original removable blue glass liner accented with a star cut motif to the underside. An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique Chinese export silver and cherry wood based vases; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection These impressive antique Chinese export silver vases have a tapering cylindrical rounded form with a waisted neck. The surface of each vase is embellished with fine and impressive applied bamboo stalk ornamentation, all on a matte background. The plain waisted upper portion of each vase is fitted with a pair of tiered fingerpieces. Each Chinese silver vase is fitted to the original cherry wood base; the vases are fitted with an internal silver dowel pin which provides a concealed attachment to the plinth, securing to the underside with a screw fitment. The hallmarks struck to the underside of these impressive antique vases include: Maker's mark: GW (Gem Wo) Character mark: Untraced These exceptional vases have been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as sterling silver (925, 925/1000). Condition: These antique Chinese vases are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The applied decoration is all very sharp. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver claret jug has a circular rounded form onto a circular plateaued foot. The upper portion of the jug is encompassed with bands of bright cut engraved evolute scroll, vertical pale and oval motifs accented with a simplified leaf garland and delicate scrolling pattern to the rim, all influenced by the Aesthetic Movement. The lower portion of the body is embellished with large fan designs segmented with tri-lobed motifs; each large module incorporates a horizontal pale, matte pattern. The Victorian silver claret jug is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover ornamented with a bright cut engraved leaf wreath design encompassing a contemporary crest of a stag's head erased. The cover is surmounted with a cast and applied leaf decorated thumbpiece, reflecting the shape of the fan designs to the body. This impressive jug is fitted with an exceptional embossed elongated S scroll handle featuring a bi-lobed ribbed formation and embellished with bright cut engraved oval motifs to either side, in addition to a scalloped, scrolling lower terminal. Either side of the lip is ornamented with a bright cut engraved simplified leaf design, in addition to a plain applied moulded border to the rim. The plateaued foot is embellished with further bright cut engraved garland designs, reflecting the ornamentation of the body and cover. The interior surface of the cover retains the original gilding. The underside of the foot bears the retailer's mark 'J. Mayer, Silversmith, Liverpool'. Condition This antique Victorian silver claret jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp. The jug has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the base and part hallmarks to the cover are very clear. In 1843, in Naples, he studied at the San Carlo alle Martelle college of the Piarist fathers and in Naples he graduated in law. He has private painting lessons with Domenico Morelli and in 1855 he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples; he then continued his painting studies in Rome (1856-1859) and made educational trips to Florence, Turin, Venice, Padua, Ferrara, Bologna and Ravenna. He makes friends with artists, including Achille Carrillo, Giuseppe Bonolis, Tommaso De Vivo, Michele De Napoli, Adriano Cecioni, Marco De Gregorio...
