Antique Circa 1880 Blue Akstafa Caucasian Hand Knotted Rug 3'10 X 8'2

About the Item

3'10 X 8'2. Akstafa rugs are a distinctive type of Caucasian rug, traditionally woven in the Akstafa (also spelled Agstafa) region of northwestern Azerbaijan. These rugs are part of the broader Kazak rug family but have a recognizable personality all their own—one that connoisseurs and collectors deeply appreciate. Akstafa rugs were woven by nomadic or semi-nomadic tribes, often by women, and carry deep cultural and symbolic meaning. They were rarely made for export, which means antique pieces tend to be unique and relatively scarce
