Most designs are geometrical shapes, i.e. rhombus, diamonds, equilateral, paisley, and Herati designs. Introducing floral motifs must have started during importing fabric from the western dealers. These rugs are made in villages by the native people and in workshops. The pile of Kurdish rugs is almost wool on the cotton foundation, except for some antique rugs with silk foundations. The weaver uses thread in the weft, and because of this, the carpet gets a typically spotted backside. We have recently hand-picked individual Kurdish rugs; which some of the best artisans are engaged in producing magnificent rugs and carpets.
