About the Item
Kuba is the largest rug weaving center in the Caucasus region. Located in the northeast near the Caspian Sea, this area is known for producing rugs with medium-density, low piles on solid foundations. These rugs are often woven on indigo fields. This long rug has a date in the upper right-hand corner, possibly being 1298AH which would translate to 1882. The rug is woven exclusively in vegetal dyes, and features a design of ascending palmettes amongst figures and rosettes on a midnight-blue field within an ivory "crab" border. 7' 10" x 3 '8".
