This antique Samarkand Khotan rug from East Turkistan, circa 1880, has faded-gold field with a large hooked shaded aubergine medallion surrounded by indigo blue rosettes, cloud motifs and auspicious symbols, a shaded aubergine key-pattern spandrel in each corner, in a buff-brown border of polychrome panels, between an inner indigo-blue angular vine stripe and an outer polychrome cloud motif stripe.
