Antique Caucasian Kuba Rug with Colorful Floral Medallions, from Rug & Kilim

About the Item

Hand-knotted in wool circa 1910-1920, this 3x5 antique Caucasian Kuba rug is a remarkable signature piece from Uzbekistan dating back to the 20th Century. On the Design: Admirers of the craft may appreciate this very special antique rug for being not only an exceptional find from one of the most special provenances, but a rarity to find a floral Caucasian Kuba rug of such versatile size, scale, and love in its every inch. Though polychromatic in its beauty, like a dense and vibrant field of floral medallions, there’s a notable presence of red, off-white, gold and blue tones. Connoisseurs will appreciate what an uncommon play of styles this is, with a playful sense of symmetry and scale, too, making it very modern for its age. The illusion of soothing repetition leads the eye to admire the equally distinct variety of geometric patterns in the field. This is a bold, graphic, personal antique piece; a piece of weaving history most likely from a special workshop with a deep reverence for the charm of floral rugs—this being one of the most elegant and versatile we’ve seen. Condition: This antique Caucasian Kuba rug enjoys good condition for its age and origin.
