About the Item
Hand-knotted in wool, this 4x6 Modern Classics rug by Rug & Kilim is inspired from antique Chinese Art Deco rugs of the 1920s Chinoiserie style.
On the Design:
A light, cream white field and border underscores a play of medallion designs, geometric patterns, floral motifs, and pictorial representations of butterflies. Admirers of the craft may note both the illustrations of the butterflies and the choice of chocolate brown and cool blue tones—addressing both the field and greek key border alike—a motif often believed to signify marital bliss in Oriental rugs. Altogether it’s a piece as deeply personal in its subtext as it is in the details and beauties that distinguish it in our craft—an homage to a rich history of craft and culture.
