Wonderful small tribal Baluch area rug from the mid 1900s.  The beautiful small area rug is hand knotted in a "prayer rug" format with the traditional Baluch tribes design and color scheme.   Very nice on the floor or as wall art tapestry. Vintage Persian Baluch tribal area rug in an all over geometric pattern in dark navy, caramel, and dark red from the early 1900s. The rug has extremely soft and shiny wool, The Baluch tribes live in the southeast corner of Persia and western Afghanistan and they use dark red, rust red, or various shades of brown as their primary colors in their hand woven rugs, saddlebags, and salt bags. This Baluch area rug has an allover design consisting of geometric forms in dark red, navy blue, and camelhair framed by four different borders make for a very subtle tribal rug. The ends of the rug have Kilim weave in addition which adds to the beauty of the rug. The rug has very high-quality wool and shimmers under light. A 19th century Persian Baluch tribal soumak double saddlebag. The front of the bag has a beautiful geometric design in a green/blue color set on a yellow background. The variation in color in the green/blue design is very beautiful. The Baluch double saddlebags have a flatwoven kilim in a rich brown and rust red color. This complete saddlebag is also known as “khorjin” in Persian, or a double bag set. These bags are renowned for their beautiful colors and design which is the result of using fine wool for both pile and the foundation of the rugs and the use of organic vegetable dyes. One usually sees only one of the panels but this piece has both side panels and the banded design kilim which forms the back of the bag. The saddlebags were used by tribes to move their household items from one location to another from their seasonal moves.
