About the Item

The suzani textiles from Uzbekistan represent the most refined and elegant manifestation of the Central Asian textile art tradition. Silk on cotton embroideries such as this one were woven by young women in order to enrich their dowry, which is why they are often in such pristine condition. This rare large example has been backed with a sturdy cotton fabric so that it could eventually be used as a floor covering in low traffic areas, other than using it as a decorative textile to cover a table or a bed.
