Hand-knotted wool and hailing from 1920s China, this 9x11 antique Chinese Art Deco rug is a one-of-a-kind new curation from Rug & Kilim.
On the Design:
An off-white field and border of cream tones underscores dark blue pictorials, florals and geometric medallions among the many motifs at play. Pictorial butterflies and floral patterns make up the field, while ornate Chinese circle medallions and figures representing blessings make up the widest border. Admirers of the craft will further note few Chinese Deco rugs found today match this bright sensibility—almost reminiscent of Peking rugs and similar dynastic provenances of the rare few to favor these fabulous bright colors. It’s a masterpiece of its era either way, worthy of the most sophisticated collectors and design applications today.
