Early 20th century Chinese yellow handmade silk rug by Doris Leslie Blau Size: 6'2" × 9'0" (187 × 274 cm) Chinese Art Deco rugs are well known thanks to their dazzling designs, but also great care with which they were woven. This piece, handmade using highest quality silk, sports an interesting pattern. On the main filed we can see a rather modest composition of leafy vines that seem to curl and climb. The frame, however, is much more opulent. Peony flowers in full bloom are accompanied by delicate stems and leaves, as it they were being protected. The color palette is certainly bold - bright yellow tastefully contrasts with elements of pink and blue, but a bit of brown helps to keep the whole composition together.
