30920 New Chinese Art Deco Rug with Maximalist Style, 10'00 x 13'05. Emanating maximalism with incredible detail and lavish texture, this Chinese Art Deco style rug is a captivating vision of woven beauty. The mythological imagery and vibrant colorway woven into this piece work together creating a truly exotic look. The color-block field and border scheme sets the scene for this work of art. An array of auspicious symbols are scattered throughout while representations of the phoenix and floral motifs break from the border into the center cultivating a beautiful juxtaposition among the design. The interplay between the piece’s various decorative elements gives the composition a great deal of visual interest while also creating a strong sense of story.
A gnarled tree branch with glorious sprays of flowers meanders along the edge of the top corner displaying an auspicious phoenix bird nestled in among the florals. Phoenixes, known in Mandarin Chinese as Fenghuang, are among the most treasured of Chinese symbols, representing good luck, elegance, Virtue, nobility, honor, integrity and peace. A dragonfly and butterfly, symbolizing transformation and new beginnings, flutter among the lower tree branch. Towards the bottom, a crane elegantly wades through the marsh. In the border, each corner features a flowering cloisonne vase, symbolizing peace and tranquility. These tranquil scenes reflect the Chinese belief that harmony with nature leads to spiritual satisfaction. The expert use of shading gives a great deal of dimension and a naturalistic appearance to the fantastic motifs, creating a truly outstanding design with undeniable beauty.
