Rare Antique Green Gem Handmade Tibetan Rug with Good Luck Symbols
About the Item
This antique meditation mat is special for its incredible dye and incredibly soft wool. The wool is so silky, we believe it is likely lambs wool. This rug uses incredibly beautiful greenish blue color derived from all natural dye. The border features The Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism. This is an intriguing handmade rug from the late 19th to early 20th century.
This antique rug comes from Joseph Carini's personal collection. Throughout his travels around the world, Carini has curated a collection of fine and rare vintage textiles and rugs. He is enamored by ancient techniques, natural dyes, and cultural symbology. This rug could make a fabulous wall hanging or be used as a powerful accent accessory piece in a room.
Carini’s design philosophy is heavily influenced by historical contexts and nature, merging his graphic and organic design interests with his considerable knowledge of decorative arts, architecture, and industrial design history. His expertise in exotic natural dyes and hand-processed materials has become a cornerstone of his work.
Joseph Carini is known for his innovative approach, constantly experimenting with design concepts and natural materials. He works closely with designers and clients, offering his expertise to help realize their visions while ensuring practical and aesthetic success. His emphasis on quality and longevity means that each carpet is crafted to last a lifetime, using the most environmentally friendly dyes and processes.
Since founding Carini in 1997, Joseph Carini has worked with diverse clients, from A-list celebrities to high-end projects. His creations appeal to design aficionados and art collectors who value unique, authentic pieces. Carini’s rugs are more than just decorative items; they are canvases imbued with intention, positive energy, and a soul that brings warmth and life to any space.

Vintage Tibetan Medallion Rug in Black and Pale Green with Buddhism Symbols
Located in Barrington, IL
This vintage Tibetan rug is a striking and meaningful piece, featuring a bold medallion design set against a deep black field, beautifully framed by a pale green border and a delicate narrow lattice band. The rug is richly detailed with accents in blue, ivory, pink, and orange, creating a vivid yet harmonious palette that brings depth and dimension to its classic composition.
At each end of the rug, you’ll find the ancient swastika symbol, a revered emblem in both Buddhism and Hinduism. In Hindu tradition, the swastika represents the four cardinal directions. Facing right, it signifies the evolution of the universe; facing left, the involution of the universe. Universally considered a sacred and auspicious symbol, it is used in religious and cultural decoration across many traditions throughout Asia.
This rug is not only visually stunning but also spiritually rich, making it a perfect addition to a tribal, Asian, or bohemian collection. Its excellent condition and symbolic depth make it a true collector’s item, equally suitable as a floor covering or as a tapestry-style wall hanging.
