Handwoven in a wool flatweave, this 14x22 rug is a new unveiling from the European rug collection by Rug & Kilim—one of its earliest works, inspired by antique Bessarabian Kilims and flatweaves. On the Design: Admirers of the craft will note a kinship in Neoclassical sensibilities between these two historic styles of Aubusson and Bessarabian kilims and flatweaves—a very shared lexicon of patterns with varied interpretations. Keen eyes may further admire especially present tones of beige/brown, cream, pink and green, as well as the subtle variety of such complementary accents that paint such an immersive portrait. It’s a masterpiece of countless subtleties, regal borders and geometric and floral patterns of a particular architectural beauty, teeming with the feminine beauty and regal sensibility that embodies this transitional style— among the most sophisticated weaving styles of history.
