About the Item

The city of Khotan, located in the oasis of the same name in the territory of East Turkestan, has always been a prosperous place, favored both by the fertility of the soil, which allowed for the development of agriculture, and by its location, which made it an important landmark for caravans heading to India along the Silk Road. The history of Khotan, which has always been a crossroads of different cultures, is also reflected in the decorations of its carpets, where one can find not only Turkmen-derived designs but also symbolic motifs of Buddhist origin. Pomegranate decorations, as in our carpet, are also very common. The Pomegranate fruit is a symbol of abundance. The many sweet, juicy grains inside the fruit represent wealth, fertility, and prosperity. Its red color is associated with blood, with a meaning of vitality, passion, energy.
