About the Item

This antique, circa 1910, Indian Agra rug has a sandy-yellow field with a delicate burgundy-red and shaded green floral and leafy vine around a large central burgundy-red cusped medallion containing palmette and floral vine with palmette pendants, the sea-green and burgundy-red linked spandrels in each corner with a sandy-yellow palmette issuing delicate floral vine, in a broad sea-green border of sandy-yellow palmettes linked by a delicate tendril vine between sandy yellow meandering floral vine stripes, plain outer burgundy-red stripes. Indian Agra rugs are renowned for their fine craftsmanship and rich history, dating back to the Mughal era when they were woven for royalty and nobility. Originating from the city of Agra, these rugs are known for their intricate designs that often feature floral motifs, palmettes, and scrolling vines, influenced by Persian art. Woven with high-quality wool or silk, Agra rugs are prized for their durability and luxurious feel. Their deep, warm color palettes, often with reds, blues, and golds, make them a popular choice for adding elegance and sophistication to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
