Elegant Antique Agra Carpet

About the Item

Situated at the heart of woven carpet production in India from the Mughal period up until the end of British rule, Agra carpets are synonymous with woven productions of the Indian sub-continent. Indian carpets demonstrate very high knot density, fine weaves, and crisp designs testament to the exemplary workmanship of Indian weavers. The sub-continent is also blessed with a diverse set of natural dye sources that contribute to the many color palettes found in Indian carpets. Floral patterns laid over a lustrous ivory field create an illusion of a garden within a contrasting burgundy border with three inner and one outer guard borders. Persian influenced floral elements combined with a “repeat” design make for an uncharacteristic Indian Mughal-inspired carpet ideal for adding warmth to almost any setting.
