About the Item

The result is a digital dialogue of two authors carried out during the period of lockdown between London and Rajasthan, in which Vitturi’s graphic impressions, inspired by the shapes and textures collected during the time spent in the village, cohabit and coexist with the world sketched by the weaver. Vitturi, primarily known as a photographer, presents a unique project within his artistic practice for his second solo exhibition at the gallery: handmade tapestries crafted using traditional looms by Indian artisans. For the first time, the artist delves deeply into the concept of collaborative practice in the creation of a work of art. “Jugalbandi” was conceived from an invitation from the Jaipur Rugs Foundation to create a series of tapestries in Rajasthan. In Hindi, Jugalbandi means “intertwined twins”, a word used to indicate a musical performance between two soloists who play simultaneously”, and is here used to describe the creative dialogue that took place with the foundation and with the local weavers. Humps Guidadi & Walls was part of Falling Into Life presented at Milan Design Week 2022, a tribute to early 20th-century Art Nouveau, combining organic lines, decorative richness, and free experimentation. The event explores the relationship between nature, art, and design, bringing projects to life that integrate impressive craftsmanship with innovative materials. The exhibition invites the audience to experience a unique sensory journey through the sinuous, sculptural forms of the pieces, telling a dialogue between the past, present, and future of design, celebrating the uniqueness and creativity of each project. Unique piece.
