Rangon ki Khoj
This rug was crafted in prison by inmates-turned-artists Bhupendra and Harji Ram. It doesn’t carry a grand message, but rather many subtle ones. Lines traverse from left to right like pages, adorned with rows of tiny dots, arrows, diamonds, and waves. Everything is woven with the utmost intricacy, yet nothing remains still. It resembles a sunset unfolding gradually, featuring faded reds, dusty pinks, and yellows reminiscent of old light. At its center lies a solitary blue diamond, which symbolises a cherished dream. While weaving, they spoke little, just working alongside each other in a silent rhythm. Yet, the rug tells a story of lost days, of observing time flow, and of clinging to color when everything else fades to grey. They named this Manchaha “Rangon ki Khoj,” meaning “Search for Colors.”
