Maati Handloom Wool Indian Rug in Earthy Tones Stripes Pattern

About the Item

MAATI is beautiful stripes design handloom rug, handwoven by a heritage artisan family and one of the last few of its kind in the community. These master weavers are based in a small village in India with whom Studio variously exclusively collaborates for high quality small batch production of handloom rugs. A sustainable design brand based out of Michigan, Studio Variously exclusively collaborates with artisan communities to restore and revive ancient techniques by exploring custom modern designs in textile based products. Maati means mud in Hindi. This rug is a reflection of the shades of mud  / maati around the artisans as they live in warm climate conditions in India. 100% handspun wool and organic dyes made completley by the artisans families have been used in this rug. This artisan family is a 5th generation family of master craftsmen who have handed down a unique technique of weaving rugs on an ancient loom which dates back hundrered of years. We personally collaborate with the family and intend to wholeheardly support their indeginous craft as there are very few families left now who can weave on this particular ancient loom. Ethically made , Maati rug is a classic neutral piece that will compliment in any interior space with its earthy pallete and stripes pattern. For Maati Rug we are using only the 100% natural wool which is completely naturally dyed by the artisans using organic materials like tree bark, eucalyptus and herbs. Each batch of organic dye is made separately and custom to ensure richness in colors. Complete process is done by hand, which mean each piece is unique and one of a kind. A classic rug , MAATI will enhance interior spaces and also support artisan communities ethically. Size: 3 Feet X 5 Feet Material: 100 % Natural Wool Colors: Shades of brown and cream ( organic dyes ) Origin: Ethically & responsibly handwoven by a heritage master weaver family in India using ancient loom and tools.
