Handwoven in a wool flatweave from the "Smart Loom" line of Rug & Kilim’s collection, this custom rug sample showcases a sophisticated approach to tonal gradation through precisely executed geometric patterns.
On the design:
This custom rug sample marries subtle textural variations with an inviting cream-beige colorway, perfectly complementing the geometric finesse of its spacious and versatile design in a fabulous take on gradience and ombre rug designs. The rhythmic stripes woven in soothing blue tones, create a visually appealing texture that adds depth and interest. This new flat weave reinvents vintage Kilim weaving principles in ways that both honor the mid-century minimalist aesthetic and modernize its construction. Our use of undyed natural yarns, for example, lends a subtle striae with more of a sense of movement and depth—a nod to Rollakan techniques in a modern fashion. This subtle intricacy both brings out the movement and pays homage to a traditional Swedish weaving technique alike.
Our flatweave’s more durable, weighted body is also a hallmark of the collection, made for high-traffic and heavy-furniture spaces. This, alongside several elements detailed here, represent R&K Principal Jahanshah Nazmiyal’s hope to honor this mid-century modern aesthetic. His collection is a contribution to that style, and a renaissance for its designs with more comfortable, current techniques.
