Hand-knotted in silk, this 3x3 square rug represents a bold new line of Rug & Kilim’s Modern Collection—a series of contemporary rugs by one of the most talented ateliers and designers in the craft today.
On the Design:
Each piece in this collection is a unique reimagining of traditional designs and antique rugs in one of the most luxurious new qualities and high knot counts available today. This particular rug—entitled “Shekar”—enjoys a large-scale circular medallion in the center and is bedecked with animal pictorials including a leopard, deer, rabbit, a bird, and an eagle carrying prey. These pictorials remain true to the title, “Shekar”, which translates to the act of hunting, though connoisseurs may further admire references to the Persian legend of Simurgh’; a bird featured in many epic poems, folk tales, and legends, considered to be the king and queen of all birds and a benevolent guardian of the natural world.
The rug’s design flourishes in a cool colorway dominated by silver-gray hues with detailing in black, white, red, sky blue, and gold tones in the medallion and cartouches alike. The brilliant sheen of silk offers depth and movement to the design which carries an almost kaleidoscopic quality. This rug denotes the modish aesthetics of one of the most bold and intricate creations from any atelier in the world today.
