Collectible Midcentury White and Brown Antique Wool Moroccan Shag Area Rug
About the Item
This antique vintage Moroccan rug is unique and rare in its design composition. It is a collectible piece because it is a very rare example of color inversion. The top portion has a brown background with white design and then the pattern switches over to the typical colorway of a white background with a brown pattern. This feature is known from some rugs from the Ait Seghrouchène, but it is considerably rare. Most likely from the region of Skoura M'daz in the center of the territory of the Ait Seghrouchène de Sidi Ali in the central Middle Atlas. It was an authentic Berber piece, originally commissioned in the mid 20th century, likely around the 1960s or 70s.
Featuring a geometric diamond pattern that is typical of the region and Beni Mguild tribe. The rich chocolate brown and the creamy natural white wools are captivating. There is an infinite amount of variation and movement within the pattern, making it a majestic piece. It has fringe on one end and brown borders along the lengths.
It is made of handspun wool from sheep in the high mountains. This rug has a thick shag of lustrous soft wool with dense pile and solid structure. The glossy wool and natural raw colors give this rug a captivating effect. In excellent condition for its age and is a fine collectible rug. A one of a kind, unique handmade carpet.
Perfect for contemporary use, whether in a midcentury modern space or a contemporary interior. Also could be used as a tapestry or wall hanging.
This Moroccan carpet is part of Carini Carpets Moroccan carpet collection specially curated by Joseph Carini. On his travels around the world, Carini curates a collection of fine and rare vintage textiles and rugs, forming Joseph Carini's Private Reserve Collection. He is enamored by ancient techniques, natural dyes, and cultural symbology.
