Largest producer are the tribal and nomadic Berber people of Morocco. Different areas produce very beautiful works of art. This large sized modern style Berber rug comes from Morocco, North Africa. This stunning piece of art was hand knotted with tribal designs and Bauhaus or Modernist inspirations. This type of rug very soft, made of local wool on wooden looms in rural areas. The abstract design of these Berber rugs inspired many modern European artists who visited Moroccan in the first half of the 20th century. The condition of the rug is new, unused and excellent. Origin: Morocco Pile material: fine hand-spun wool Structure: Soft and with a high, plush pile - soft wool Colors: beige, brown, olive, blue, charcoal Design: Modernist Pile: circa 1 to 1 1/2 inch high. Handspun wool is shedding at the first few weeks of use! Influence of North African Rugs on European Modern Art. These abstract designs had a great influence on European Modern Art. An initial date was a travel to Tunis in the year 1914. Paul Klee, August Macke and Louis Moilliet visited Tunesia and their Artworks after that trip showed many new inspirations in abstract design. We recommend a book published in 2013 titled "Marokkanische Teppiche und die Kunst der Moderne" if you are interested in learning about the interaction of Moroccan / North African Art and Modern Art. The Orient had a lasting fascination for painters in Europe. The paintings "View of Tangier" and "Moroccan Landscape" by Eugène Delacroix date from the 19th century. Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky were other painters who prepared the terrain for Paul Klee's trips to Tunis (1914) and Egypt (1928). The Djoharian Design Collection is located in Germany, all our rugs are shipped from there. We are licensed FAIR-TRADE partner of LABEL STEP FAIR TRADE CARPETS. Label STEP is the fair-trade non-profit organization committed to the wellbeing of weavers and workers in the handmade carpet industry.
