About the Item

A rare and unusual Moroccan rug woven in the hooked technique using recycled industrial fibres on a plastic foundation. The directional character of the abstract pattern, which seem to indicate a curved central niche containing a tree-like form, strongly suggests that it was used as a prayer mat, especially as the small size and very light weight would make it an easily transportable item. A remarkable sense of color and whimsicality in design. A wonderful example of how a weaver can express beauty even through a utilitarian object.
