Berber rugs and carpets are mainly made in Morocco, Tunesia and Algeria. Largest producer are the tribal and nomadic Berber people of Morocco. Different areas produce very beautiful works of art. The Boujad are famous for their thick wool rugs with geometrical designs. Infuence of North African rugs on European Modern Art. These abstract designs had a great influence on European Modern Art. An initial date was a travel to Tunis in the year 1914. Paul Klee, August Macke and Louis Moilliet visited Tunesia and their Artworks after that trip showed many new inspirations in abstract design. We recommend a book published in 2013 titled "Marokkanische Teppiche und die Kunst der Moderne" if you are interested in learning about the interaction of Moroccan / North African Art and Modern Art. The Orient had a lasting fascination for painters in Europe. The paintings "View of Tangier" and "Moroccan Landscape" by Eugène Delacroix date from the 19th century. Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky were other painters who prepared the terrain for Paul Klee's trips to Tunis (1914) and Egypt (1928). Measure: 8.2 x 5.3 ft. Often diamonds are strung together or used as a layered pattern within each other. The pile consists of loose hand-spun highland wool. Boujad rugs are very soft and cuddly.
