About the Item

A very finely woven saddle rug from the Ait Ouaouzguite Berber tribe, located in the Jebel Siroua area in southern Morocco, distinguished by an abstract chequerboard and pointillist-type pattern on a rich red background. These rare items were woven as objects of great prestige, destined to cover the horse saddle of a tribal chieftain. The extreme attention to details together with the use of the finest quality wool indicate the rank of the very few who owned a horse within the tribe. The small size makes it ideal as a wall hanging as well as an accent rug.
