About the Item

Vintage red and black Mrirt carpet. When made from untinted wool, M'rirt carpets are reminiscent of Beni Ouarain carpets. A white background is enhanced with geometric patterns, lozenges for Beni Ouarain, and patterns scattered for Beni M'rirt. Moroccan rugs of M'rirt never take the traditional lozenges of Beni Ouarain. In Morocco, each tribe uses its own codes and symbols. They are found in the decorative elements of carpets. These Berber carpets of the Middle Atlas, off-white or in color, are particularly dense, Berber women using metal wool combs to pack the wool on their vertical loom. The energetic tamping of the woolen strands, using this heavy metal comb, incorporates them into the part of the carpet already knotted. The Berber women thus obtain a high density of wool per square meter, the woolen strands seem to be contiguous to each other. This is one of the characteristics to identify a Beni M'rirt carpet. This high density of wool results in a much longer carpet production time, a weight of the carpet several kilograms higher than Beni Ouarain carpet size and therefore a greater amount of wool. This explains the difference in price of M'rirt carpets, usually 50% more expensive than Beni Ouarain carpets.

! Poul Kjærholm PK 22 Chair Reupholstered in Cowhide E. Kold Christensen 1963
By Poul Kjærholm, E. Kold Christensen
Located in Santa Gertrudis, Baleares
Poul Kjærholm (1929–1980) the praised Danish designer, the "furniture architect", designed the emblematic PK22 Chair in 1956. Standing out from the other Danish mid century designers, his predilection material wasn't wood but steel. This PK22 gets its outstanding comfort from the cowhide which is floating above the metal structure, thanks to the curved crossbars that holds the feet together without interfering with the seat's ergonomy. The obviously powerful and effective design speaks for itself, fitting perfectly a more intimate space needing structure and discretion thanks to the thin and light side view, as well as larger rooms thanks to the wide seat and backrest creating subtle geometric shapes. The chair has been reupholstered in an elegant black and white cowhide, whose unique pattern interacts gracefully with the design. The frame bears...
