About the Item

Vintage Claire Murray hand hooked pictorial rug. The rug has a delightful design and colors. The rug has an ivory color background with designs in green, red, blue and brown colors. We are intrigued with the novelty and the imagination of the maker in creating such a wonderful and rare design in great colors that would make this piece a wonderful wall art. The American hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries were made with recycled old clothing and feed sack material. The material was washed and then cut into narrow stripes. The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface. The use of special design and the brilliant colors makes this truly an artistic piece wonderful to be used as a wall art or displayed on a table. Antique Hooked Rugs are a combination of Folk Art Creativity and Simplicity.
