About the Item

77730 Vintage Persian Tabriz Rug, 08'03 x 11'08. This hand-knotted wool vintage Persian Tabriz rug, a precious one-of-a-kind treasure, is a testament to the intricate artistry and deep cultural heritage of signature Persian weaving. At the heart of this Tabriz rug lies a stunning concentric scalloped round medallion, meticulously adorned with palmettes and encircled by a lush array of floral patterns, which resonate with the richness of Persian gardens. The medallion's captivating design is elegantly echoed in the deep and elaborate corner spandrels that enrich the composition with baroque botanical elements, showcasing a masterful integration of form and motif. The majestic field of the Tabriz rug, an abrashed vibrant red, serves as a vivid canvas for the ornate floral displays that are scattered liberally across it. This magnificent ensemble of blooming palmettes, stylized florals, and curved sickle leaves intermingles with sprigs and arabesque vines, creating a dynamic visual feast. The organic amorphous shapes add a subtle yet profound depth to the rug, their soft contours and intricate detailing suggesting movement and life within the weave. Framing this exquisite central tableau is a Shah Abbas border, renowned for its detailed depictions of Islamic art and architecture. This border is flanked by inner and outer meandering palmette guard bands, which enhance the rug's majestic presence. The border's intricate floral motifs and symmetrical designs serve not only as a decorative edge but also as a symbol of the boundless creativity and skill of the Tabriz weavers. This extraordinary work of art, with its harmonious blend of color and design, is more than just a floor covering; it's a piece of history woven into the fabric of the present. It invites viewers to step back in time and experience the beauty of Persian craftsmanship, making it an enchanting addition to any collection or decor. Its intricate patterns and vibrant colors celebrate the enduring legacy of Persian artisans, offering a luxurious and timeless aesthetic that captivates and delights. Abrash. Hand-knotted wool. Antique Persian Sarouk Area Rug
Located in New York, NY
Sarouk is a name of a village situated about 25 miles north of Arak (Sultanabad). This region became one of the most active regions of carpet weaving in the late 19th century through the early 20th century. The city's most famous designer was named Farahan. To be able to compete with Kashan in rug commerce, Farahan designed rugs with center medallion motives. Today, these carpets are referred to as Antique 19th century Farahan Sarouks. In the 1920s and 1930s a well-known rug dealer in New York thought that Americans would buy rose-field carpets with blue borders and detached floral motives. However, the natural dyed rose color did not stand up to the alkaline bath to which new rugs in Arak were subjected in the finishing process. The rose color faded radically. But instead of changing the finishing process or changing the composition of the dyes to stand up to alkali, New York merchants "solved" the problem by arming their staffs with synthetic dyes and little paint brushes with which they painted back in the rose-color in the entire fields of thousands and thousands of rugs and carpets over a period of 20 years. Today, Antique Sarouk rugs and carpets...
