Antique Circa-1860 Wool Light-Brown Large Persian Bakhshiash Rug

About the Item

This antique, circa 1860, Persian Bakhshaish rug has a pale camel field with three columns of linked angular lozenges, issuing light blue angular vine forming panels enclosing angular flowerheads, alternating with buff-brown double forked vines enclosing an open band of square panels each containing a central polychrome palmette, these panels linked by further angular vine and flowerheads, in a broad soft blue border of bold polychrome lozenge medallions with a brick-red and fox-brown square panel each with a central flowerhead linked by angular brick-red vine which enclose polychrome serrated leaf motifs, between brick-red and fox-brown angular vine stripes. Bakhshaish rugs are traditional Persian rugs woven in the village of Bakhshaish in northwest Iran, near the city of Tabriz. These rugs are celebrated for their tribal charm, bold geometric designs, and earthy color palettes, often featuring large-scale medallions, stylized floral motifs, or abstract patterns. Woven with hand-spun wool and natural dyes, Bakhshaish rugs reflect a blend of rustic village craftsmanship and classical Persian influences. Their spacious designs and warm tones make them especially appealing for both antique collectors and modern interiors seeking a touch of authenticity and character.
