Antique Formal 1900s Persian Bidjar Rug in Red, Blue, and Gold, 4' x 6'
About the Item
This formal antique Persian Bidjar carpet in red with accents of blue and gold measures approximately 4' x 6'. To craft this carpet, the weaver utilized traditional Persian handknotting weaving technique. These practices create a luxurious pile and a durable foundation, while organic vegetable dyes produce the vibrant hues.
The design symbolizes a Persian flower garden, with a multilayered border that symbolizes the walkway around the flower garden. Among neutral cream-colored flowers, small fish motifs float in the four corners of the design, meanwhile green bird motifs disguise themselves on either side of the central medallion. Traditionally, the foreground of this carpet would be blue, representing the water pond, or hoz, inside the Persian flower garden. In this carpet, the weaver chose to utilize red, which in Persian textiles represents love.
