About the Item

Measures: 3'10 x 6'7. Antique Kurdish Rug with Central Ivory Medallion and Repeating Paisley Motifs. Keivan Woven Arts / rug EMA-7570, country of origin / type: Iran / Kurdish, circa 1910. An eye-catching antique Kurdish rug distinguished by a bold central ivory medallion featuring stylized abstract figures and stepped motifs in shades of rust red, sky blue, and soft lavender. The medallion anchors a richly patterned indigo field adorned with a dense lattice of boteh (paisley) forms in coral, rose, ochre, and periwinkle—symbols often associated with abundance and fertility in Kurdish weaving tradition. The main border presents an angular vine scroll with sharply drawn leaves and stylized rosettes in alternating soft reds, browns, and aquas, flanked by charming reciprocal guard borders. The hand-knotted wool construction and naturally dyed fibers give the rug texture and tonal warmth, while the saturated palette and confident drawing speak to the individuality and regional identity of Kurdish tribal weavers. antique Kurdish rug, tribal Persian rug with boteh motifs, handwoven wool Kurdish carpet, vintage Kurdish medallion rug, indigo and coral Kurdish tribal rug, ivory medallion rug with paisley design, collectible Kurdish rugs from Iran, antique Kurdish textiles for interior design,Kurdish rug with folk motifs, antique Persian rug with boteh pattern, Kurdish village rug with central medallion, hand-knotted wool rug with natural dyes, tribal rug with symbolic motifs

Vintage Persian Kurdish Tribal Area Rug/Wide Runner in Geometric Pattern in Blue
Located in Barrington, IL
Vintage Persian Kurdish tribal area rug or a wide runner, meticulously hand-knotted circa the early 1900s. Originating from the skilled Kurdish weavers of Persia, these rugs are renowned for their distinctive geometric designs, rich palettes, and the enduring quality of their village weaving traditions. This versatile Kurdish rug features a captivating geometric pattern that unfolds gracefully across its field. The central design is defined by a striking series of seven small medallions arranged in a single column, creating a strong visual anchor. The main field itself presents a harmonious interplay of deep blue and warm rust colors, providing a rich and inviting backdrop for the intricate motifs. This rug's wonderful design is further enhanced by the expert use of natural vegetable dyes. These organic pigments not only provide brilliant, saturated colors but also develop a beautiful patina and subtle tonal variations (abrash) over time, a hallmark of authentic village weavings that only adds to their beauty and character. The entire composition is elegantly framed by multiple borders, each displaying their own beautiful colors and intricate geometric designs. These layered borders provide depth and sophistication, perfectly complementing the central field and completing this charming village carpet from the early 1900s.
